A Message from the 20th President
Texas College a liberal arts institution has a historic mission and legacy of providing educational opportunities, academic services, and career choices for thousands of African American youth from throughout Texas, the nation, and internationally. I am honored and excited to serve as the 20th President of Texas College in continuing this outstanding legacy and mission. Working together with the entire 'Texas College Family,' we can assure the financial stability of the College, increase cash flow, renovate and enhance existing facilities and construct new facilities, increase funding for student scholarships and the general endowment, and update and acquire new equipment. To achieve all of these important goals, we have launched a $7.5 million capital campaign.
We have already been receiving an overwhelming response from the Texas College Family as immediate supporters and contributors to this campaign. These more than 4,000 Texas College Family members—faculty, staff, administrators, students, Board of Trustees and staff members—have provided this capital campaign their strong financial support and leadership.
Further, I am delighted to receive the support, commitment, and leadership of prominent business leaders in serving on the Capital Campaign's National Development Council, including such public figures as:
Darrell Green - A Texas native and all-pro national football player with the Washington Redskins.
Hank and Billye Aaron - Mr. Aaron was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame and serves as Vice President of the Atlanta Braves. Mrs. Aaron is the former regional director for UNCF and a Texas College alumnus.
Willie Brown - Mayor of San Francisco. Mayor Brown's two sisters graduated from Texas College.
Mr. Gene Eidleman - Chief Executive Officer of Mosaic Education. Mr. Eidleman is a self-made millionaire and the founder of his corporation.
Dr. Mike Kneale - Founder of Kneale Enterprises. Dr. Kneale is national lecturer, education consultant, and motivational speaker. Dr. Kneale is also a self-made millionaire.
We are building a very influential and committed National Development Council that work with Texas College Family to achieve and exceed this $7.5 million capital campaign goal.
As President, I will continue to work aggressively with all members of the Texas College Family and the National Development Council to ensure the continuation of this legacy of opportunity and choices for the present and future generations of Texas College students. However, the building of any great College is a task which is never complete. Each generation shoulders the responsibility to continue the effort. We must all do our part.
Billy C. Hawkins, President
